This program combines practical skills (hands-on training) with theoretical knowledge in a setting that simulates reality and produces qualified professionals who are well-informed in the following disciplines:
- Risk Management
- Communication and Capacity Building
- Reconstruction
Program Objective
This program aims to provide trainees with the skills and knowledge required for working in the field of crisis and disaster management at ministries, government organizations, NGOs, and INGOs according to contemporary scientific theories and modern methods.
Program Content
1) Risk Management
The program offers risk and disaster management courses that raise awareness about natural disasters and how they are managed and explains techniques and methods for preventing industrial risks in order to reduce its impact on people, establishments, and the environment through developing prevention and coping strategies.
It also explains mechanisms and technologies necessary for developing response plans and ensure preparedness in case of risks, whether they were at the level of enterprises, districts, or countries.
This part of the program will get trainees introduced to technologies so they can later on dive deeper into decision-making analysis using GIS databases in particular.
2) Communication and Capacity Building
The program gives special attention to human development and capacity-building at various levels to develop the state and local communities and to confront present and future potential crises, taking into account the subjects that cover the area’s different aspects, especially PR skills, including crisis communication, whether at the level of the institution that’s building its image and reputation, or at the level of individuals who work at institutions and must communicate with the public opinion in the case of a crisis.
Trainees will learn how to deal with the media, produce press releases, and the role of the official spokesperson. They will also learn how to manage effective media relations during a crisis’ life cycle (before, during, and after) and be able to intervene quickly during crises.
3) Reconstruction
The program offers different development courses, such as rebuilding the economy and public services using modern approaches—including the relationship between development and reconstruction in general and the relationship between economic policies and rebuilding processes in specific, while analyzing the participatory process of different actors in both development and construction and assessing resources required for reconstruction.
Trainees will get introduced to administrative development, the roles of leaderships’ competencies, and the importance of the knowledge and good management/governance in the administrative development process.
They will also acquire knowledge in administrative reform, transparency, and governance, which are necessary for reconstruction and development.
